What is 1 in 11?

As you’re reading this, 1 in 11 children across the world are out of school and not getting the start in life they are entitled to. That’s 58 million children who will not get the chance to fulfil their potential.

1 in 11 is a unique partnership between global organisations UNICEF, the FC Barcelona Foundation and Reach out to Asia (ROTA). We have come together to harness the power of sport and education to ensure that every child has the opportunities they deserve in life.

We’re raising money to fund three education pilot projects in three countries that will reach some of the most marginalised and vulnerable children – Indonesia, Nepal and Bangladesh. We will then aim to expand our efforts to even more countries.

Our vision is that no child should be left out. Every child deserves a quality education and the opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Our Challenge

Every child has the right to fulfill their potential - and education is fundamental to this.

A quality education goes beyond academic and literacy skills. Integrating sport and play into education can help unlock their potential:

  • It teaches the values of respect, teamwork and effort
  • It improves concentration and attention
  • It inspires boys and girls to go to and stay in school
  • It can break down social barriers

Our vision is that no child is left out – every child should be given the opportunity to fulfil their potential and live the life they are entitled to.

Art Auction

On 12th February 2015, London’s renowned auction house, Sotheby’s, hosted an auction to raise funds for the 1 in 11 campaign.

World famous artist including Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koon created works especially for the auction to help us raise money for 1 in 11.

In total, over 3 million euros was raised which will be used to set up three initial projects in Indonesia, Nepal and Bangladesh. These projects will help some of the most vulnerable children access a quality education.
